SUMMARY:Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training with Building Hope Summit County
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, February 11\, 20259:00 AM\nWednesday\, February 12\, 20255:00 PM \nColorado Mountain College Breckenridge \n07 Denison Placer Road \nBreckenridge\, CO\, 80424(map) \nREGISTER HERE (MUST REGISTER FOR BOTH DAYS) \nPresented in Partnership with Building Hope Summit County \nTuesday\, February 11th and Wednesday\, February 12th from 9:00am – 5:00pm. Attendance is required both days from 9:00am – 5:00pm. \nApplied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a FREE two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may be having thoughts of suicide and how to work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers\, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 16 or older can learn and use the ASIST model. \nSince its development in 1983\, ASIST has received regular updates to reflect improvements in knowledge and practice\, and over 1 million people have taken the workshop. Studies show that the ASIST method helps reduce suicidal feelings in those at risk and is a cost-effective way to help address the problem of suicide. \nLearning goals and objectives \nOver the course of their two-day workshop\, ASIST participants learn to: \n\n\nUnderstand the ways that personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions \n\n\nProvide guidance and suicide first aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs \n\n\nIdentify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it \n\n\nAppreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large \n\n\nRecognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care \n\n\nWorkshop features: \n\n\nPresentations and guidance from two LivingWorks registered trainers \n\n\nA scientifically proven intervention model \n\n\nPowerful audiovisual learning aids \n\n\nGroup discussions \n\n\nSkills practice and development \n\n\nA balance of challenge and safety \n\n\nLunch provided both days \n\n\nSpeakUp ReachOut is able to provide this course for free to participants via a grant specifically aimed towards training residents in Eagle County\, Summit County\, and Garfield County\, Colorado in suicide prevention. As a result\, we must first offer this course to Eagle\, Summit or Garfield County residents. We require a minimum of 10 registrants to hold this training. SpeakUp ReachOut reserves the right to cancel the training a week in advance.
