The Quiet Weight of Waiting<\/b><\/h1>\n

In the mountains, we understand waiting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We wait for snow.
\n We wait for bluebird days.
\nWe wait for trails to thaw.<\/p>\n

But this winter felt different.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The snow didn\u2019t come when it usually does. Storm after storm missed us. We watched totals in other places rise while ours stalled out. And under the surface of everyday conversations about the weather, something else was building.<\/p>\n

Because here, snow isn\u2019t just recreation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Snow is ski area operations.
\nSnow is visitor numbers.
\nSnow is shifts and tips and rent money.
\nSnow is summer water supply.
\nSnow is wildfire mitigation.<\/p>\n

We love snow here. We play in it. We build our winters \u2014 and our livelihoods \u2014 around it.<\/p>\n

Waiting isn’t Neutral<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\nWaiting in February feels personal.
\nBy the time the biggest storm of the year arrives late \u2014 when we\u2019re usually already talking about spring \u2014 it doesn\u2019t just bring powder. It brings relief layered with fatigue. Gratitude mixed with \u201cwhy now?\u201d<\/p>\n

The nervous system doesn\u2019t love unpredictability.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When income feels uncertain, when community stability feels shaky, when the future of a season feels unclear, our bodies don\u2019t categorize that as \u201cjust weather.\u201d They register it as instability.
