I grew up in Summit County having to overcome many hardships. Through the hardships, I learned to overcome obstacles, limitations, and worked hard to provide myself with quality education through Colorado Christian University with a B.S. in Psychology, and through Liberty University with a M.A. degree in Professional Counseling, and an Ed.D. degree in Community Care and Counseling: Traumatology. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision also through Liberty University. In addition to my private practice, I also serve as an Adjunct Professor within the School of Behavioral Sciences with Liberty University. Through personal, professional, and academic experiences, hard work and dedication, I have developed the following mission statement and approach to practice:
There are many theories, techniques, diagnoses, and labels out there. It is not my place to judge or label my clients. Behaviors may meet guidelines and there are a variety of ways to work through issues, but my clients are not numbers on a file; clients are people with the courage to seek out a professional to help them walk through their journey. Each client is an individual with their own issues, needs, and wanting to be heard. It is often pain and/or despair which bring clients into counseling and courage with the willingness to change to overcome obstacles instead of being overcome by them.
My areas of specialty surround Post-traumatic Stress, Trauma, and Mild to Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury adaptation and psycho-social skills. Areas of specialty are not limits of my practice. In a safe counseling environment, I work with clients as they learn to identify, work through, and develop new ways to react to triggers and issues which complicate professional and personal relationships. It is my goal to walk with my clients as they learn to overcome obstacles and not be overcome by them.
