Dear Summit County Mental Health Professionals,

Happy July! We hope this message finds you well. Enclosed please find a slew of updates for your perusal. Please contact info@buildinghopesummit.org with any questions.

Building Hope News

Participate in a Focus Group with Innovela Consulting & Help us with our Mental Health Improvement Plan!

We are looking for providers who serve children and families who would be willing to participate in a focus group, on 7/17 in the afternoon or 7/18 in the morning, to help us identify the gaps in mental health services and supports for children and families and to brainstorm strategies to intervene earlier. We will be holding two focus groups, one for providers serving families with children who are not in school yet (and people who are pregnant/postpartum) and a second one for providers serving school aged children. The findings from these groups will help shape our 2024 Behavioral Health Assessment.

If you are available to participate, contact Kristen@buildinghopesummit.org for more information about times and place. Food & snacks will be provided for participating providers.

Community Offerings and Updates

Proyecto Thrive Pilot Scholarship

Using Proyecto Thrive funds, Project Thrive and the SSD have set aside a fund of $10K to support youth (ages 5-11) who are facing crisis, emergency, or extenuating circumstances that prevent them from accessing summer programs. They are doing this because they believe that it is hard to find youth program information and that youth should have the chance to participate in what they are interested in regardless of background, accessibility challenges, or financial circumstances.

The Process:

SSD and Project Thrive ask that caseworkers, supporters, therapists, clinicians, etc guide the youth or family to fill out the scholarship application for the respective organization/camp they are interested in. They also ask that the person assisting this youth (referring organization staff member) fill out the referral form for Proyecto Thrive funds.

After they receive the completed referral form and a copy of the completed scholarship application, they will review the documentation and process a direct payment to the organization where the youth is enrolling in programs (for example, Theatre Silco). They ask that the program provider (Theatre Silco) help guarantee that the youth is able to enroll in available programs of their choosing, and then invoices Proyecto Thrive for the amount of financial assistance the youth is eligible for.

Here is the referral form (steps are in the description of the form as well!)

Colorado C-SSRS Training Live

The Colorado Office of Suicide Prevention is pleased to offer Columbia Protocol trainings to agencies across the state in partnership with the Columbia Lighthouse Project. The training is funded by OSP and comes at NO COST to you.

The Columbia Protocol, also known as the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), supports suicide risk assessment through a series of simple, plain-language questions that anyone can ask. The answers help users identify whether someone is at risk for suicide, assess the severity and immediacy of that risk, and gauge the level of support that the person needs. Users of the tool ask people:

Whether and when they have thought about suicide (ideation)

What actions they have taken — and when — to prepare for suicide

Whether and when they attempted suicide or began a suicide attempt that was either interrupted by another person or stopped of their own volition.

You can read more at Columbia Protocol Tool.

Deadline to join: Registration is ongoing, or until capped. Please select one of the three dates when registering.

July 15@12pm-1:30pm MST

August 12th @12pm-1:30pm MST

Details of training:

Protocol administrators learn to ask a series of questions about suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Depending on the answers, training helps providers know how to most quickly and simply identify whether a person is at risk and needs assistance, and what that assistance should look like based on their setting.

Columbia will help an organization establish criteria or thresholds that determine what to do next for each person assessed.

**Please note this form is for individual registration, please share to each participant if you have an entire team joining!** If you have further questions email jazmin.murguia@state.co.us.
