Summit Advocates Perception and Name Survey – 2nd Survey

Summit Advocates are grateful to those who participated in our first survey. Your input has been instrumental in narrowing down our options to four names. We have decided to use acronyms based on feedback in round one. Your continued support and feedback in this second survey are invaluable.

This rebranding project is funded by a grant our organization won from the State of Colorado for the purpose of better communicating with our clients and potential clients. The name we are creating needs to communicate across cultures and languages

Thank you for your participation!

SpeakUpReachOut Storytelling Retreat – August 7th

At SpeakUpReachOut, they believe that storytelling saves lives. If you are a person who has faced adversity and life challenges, like mental illness, suicidal thoughts, addiction, alcohol and substance misuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, or any other trauma, and you want to learn how to share your story with others, this is for you.

Join them to learn the “hero’s journey” strategy for how to tell your personal story, to share how you lived through the trials and tribulations of recovery, and to be part of an effort to help others who are now facing similar situations. With group feedback, stories will be perfected and shared. This day-long retreat is facilitated by Sarah Gaer and Dr. Sally Spencer-Thomas, storytelling mental health advocates with their own lived experience with mental health and suicide.

Open to community members 18+ who are interested in developing their stories around mental illness, suicidal ideation, substance misuse or other life challenges.

Proyecto Thrive Pilot Scholarship

Using Proyecto Thrive funds, Project Thrive and the SSD have set aside a fund of $10K to support youth (ages 5-11) who are facing crisis, emergency, or extenuating circumstances that prevent them from accessing summer programs. They are doing this because they believe that it is hard to find youth program information and that youth should have the chance to participate in what they are interested in regardless of background, accessibility challenges, or financial circumstances.

The Process:

SSD and Project Thrive ask that caseworkers, supporters, therapists, clinicians, etc guide the youth or family to fill out the scholarship application for the respective organization/camp they are interested in. They also ask that the person assisting this youth (referring organization staff member) fill out the referral form for Proyecto Thrive funds.

After they receive the completed referral form and a copy of the completed scholarship application, they will review the documentation and process a direct payment to the organization where the youth is enrolling in programs (for example, Theatre Silco). They ask that the program provider (Theatre Silco) help guarantee that the youth is able to enroll in available programs of their choosing, and then invoices Proyecto Thrive for the amount of financial assistance the youth is eligible for.

Here is the referral form (steps are in the description of the form as well!) https://forms.gle/mEwswmwjrRY4uBPRA

Provider Trainings & Workshops

Recording of Special Regional Accountable Entity (RAE) 1 Behavioral Health Office Hours

Listen to the recording here about the latest updates to our medicaid behavioral health value-based payment (VBP) program for the independent provider network, which will take effect on July 1, 2024. These updates are crucial for enhancing the quality of care and ensuring equitable reimbursement for our provider network.

CAMS Training

The Colorado Office of Suicide Prevention (OSP) is pleased to announce that they have finalized the date for their next free virtual CAMS training for Colorado providers. The training will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 8:30am-4:30pm MT. This training will be an 8-hour, single-day, online format. Please feel free to register yourself, or share the below registration links with your partners.

CAMS APPLICATION LINK:  Completion of the form below is required to register.

Register for Tuesday, August 20, 2024

Registration will be open until Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the latest. If the session reaches capacity, the form will close. Please register as soon as possible to help ensure you are able to claim a seat.

Registration norms, expectations, and kind asks:

As a reminder, this training is being offered for Colorado clinicians (psychologist, psychiatrist, counselors, etc.) and/or other behavioral health providers working in clinical settings and providing ongoing behavioral health care.

The OSP are encouraging interested participants to apply as soon as possible for priority consideration, as they have a very strict capacity limit for each training. Please reach out early if you have a conflict and would like to request another date.

If you feel there is a high likelihood you won’t be able to attend a training, they kindly ask that you do not register at this time. The OSP provides this training free of charge, and they often run into situations where interested participants will register and then no-show, or cancel too close to the training date to fill their space. They almost always reach capacity for their CAMS trainings and manage a waitlist of providers who are eager to attend. No-shows and last-minute cancellations unfortunately take away opportunities for others to participate. The OSP wants to be sure everyone has an equitable opportunity to take advantage of this highly sought-after opportunity.

Before attending the role-playing course, participants will need to complete a ~4-hr online video course, so earlier registration will help provide enough time to complete the video course. To learn more about the CAMS training and it’s requirements, please visit https://cams-care.com/

Please feel free to reach out to kaleigh.kessel@state.co.us if you have any questions.

Colorado C-SSRS Training Live

The Colorado Office of Suicide Prevention is pleased to offer Columbia Protocol trainings to agencies across the state in partnership with the Columbia Lighthouse Project. The training is funded by OSP and comes at NO COST to you.

The Columbia Protocol, also known as the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS), supports suicide risk assessment through a series of simple, plain-language questions that anyone can ask. The answers help users identify whether someone is at risk for suicide, assess the severity and immediacy of that risk, and gauge the level of support that the person needs. Users of the tool ask people:

Whether and when they have thought about suicide (ideation)

What actions they have taken — and when — to prepare for suicide

Whether and when they attempted suicide or began a suicide attempt that was either interrupted by another person or stopped of their own volition.

You can read more at Columbia Protocol Tool.

Details of training:

Protocol administrators learn to ask a series of questions about suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Depending on the answers, training helps providers know how to most quickly and simply identify whether a person is at risk and needs assistance, and what that assistance should look like based on their setting.

Columbia will help an organization establish criteria or thresholds that determine what to do next for each person assessed.

**Please note this form is for individual registration, please share to each participant if you have an entire team joining!** If you have further questions email jazmin.murguia@state.co.us.
