The power of connection

The Power of Connection

Living in Summit County’s mountains is a gift, but it comes with challenges. The stunning views and endless adventures are unmatched, yet mountain life can feel isolating, and the seasonal shifts test our mental health. The solution? Connection.

Connecting with each other, nature, and our community is transformative. These bonds ground us, lift us, and help us thrive. Let’s dive into how these connections build resilience and inspire care for the land and people around us.

Social Bonds: The Heartbeat of Resilience

When we support each other through hard times or celebrate wins, we build something powerful: belonging. Organizations like Building Hope Summit County make these connections stronger. Our Connectedness and HYPE events, free support groups, and volunteer opportunities are spaces to share, heal, and grow. When we feel seen, we’re stronger together.

Nature: A Source of Strength

If you’ve ever stood atop a trail and soaked in the view, you’ve felt it: nature’s power to calm and renew. Here, the outdoors isn’t just a playground—it’s a lifeline.

It doesn’t take much. A stroll by Dillon Reservoir, a bike ride through wildflowers, or simply sitting under an open sky can work wonders. Nature reminds us we’re part of something vast and beautiful, giving us peace and perspective, while simultaneously serving as a direct path to connect with ourselves.

Caring for the land deepens this connection. Picking up trail trash, supporting local eco-friendly businesses, or planting trees strengthens both the environment and our bond with it. When we care for the earth, it cares for us.

Where People and the Planet Meet

Summit County shines when community and nature unite. Opportunities that blend connection with sustainability create magic. Here’s how you can join in:

  • Put Trash Where It Belongs: Maintaining awareness with High Country Conservation Center on how to dispose of and recycle responsibly, and picking up trash you find during your outdoor adventures.
  • Trail Restoration Days: Improve paths and strengthen neighborly ties with Friends of the Dillon Ranger District.
  • Connect with Friends and Family Outdoors: Save some money and go for a hike.

Organizations such as Building Hope, Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, High Country Conservation Center, and Breck Create host events that bring people and nature closer, offering ways to give back and grow together.

Five Ways to Connect This Summer

Ready to strengthen your ties? Try these ideas:

  • Join a Support Group: Community groups are safe spaces to share and connect.
  • Attend Local Events: Farmers’ markets, art classes at Breck Create and Art Spot, and free concerts in Breck and Frisco make it easy to meet new people.
  • Volunteer: Whether at the FIRC food market, Building Hope, or any local organization, giving time creates meaningful connections.
  • Unplug Outdoors: Step away from screens and embrace the mountains.
  • Share Resources: Swap tools, skills, or time with neighbors to build trust and community.

Stronger Together

In Summit County, connection is everything. Bonds with neighbors, nature, and the community make this place home. By investing in these ties, we create a resilient, thriving town that’s as strong as the mountains around us.

This summer, let’s deepen those bonds. Go to that event. Take that hike. Offer that helping hand. Together, we’ll build a community we’re proud to call our own.
