Mental Health Scholarships are an asset to Summit County

“So many of us want to do therapy but don’t because of the cost and the process seems so overwhelming. This program has been a lifesaver for me and some of my friends who’ve also gone through hard times and were able to access help because of Building Hope.”

Life can be challenging sometimes, and living in Summit County is not immune to struggles. Issues like the cost of living, childcare options, social media standards, housing shortages, and worldwide issues have all contributed to impacting the mental health of our community. More than ever people are admitting they are experiencing an increase in depression, stress, and anxiety- and they are ready to talk to someone about it.

While being open and willing to try therapy is a great first step, many members of our community become overwhelmed with the entire process.

Issues like being uninsured, high premiums, and language barriers can also contribute to the difficulties voiced by the community. Here at Building Hope we want to ensure that therapy is accessible to those unable to obtain it otherwise.

“This is an amazing program. It was easy to access with low barriers to entry and the program scholarships were simple to understand and readily available.”

The Building Hope Mental Health Scholarship program was created to help people experiencing a mental health struggle who cannot afford to pay for therapy. Qualifying individuals can receive up to 12 therapy sessions with participating providers. Those who do not qualify are assisted in using other financial support such as insurance, employee assistance programs, and government programs as appropriate.

Since creating the Insurance Provider Program in 2020,  Building Hope has assisted providers as they navigate the challenging landscape of insurance, billing and payments. We have worked hard to connect English and Spanish providers to patients both in-person and virtually as we have seen a 30% increase in scholarship applications since the pandemic.

“This is an amazing program. It was easy to access with low barriers to entry and the program’s scholarships were simple to understand and readily available.”

In 2024, 726 community members applied for Mental Health Scholarships, with 20% of those applicants being redirected to use insurance or other resources. Saving approx. $191,400 in scholarship funds to help MORE individuals.

We are grateful for your support in continuing our impact on the community.
