Hello! My name is Drew Mikita, I have lived in Breckenridge since 2007. I am an Associate Professor of Psychology at Colorado Mountain College, Licensed Professional Counselor, Sport Psychology Coach (and doctoral student), Writer and Speaker. I was once diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, and allowed the disorder to control and dictate my life, being a victim of this diagnosis. Until a few years ago when I decided it was time to take control of his life and mental illness/wellness. I found great success by simplifying my life and focusing on self care. I believe mental health is not a singular construct, and therefore does not have a singular solution. But rather an opportunity to understand yourself and the impact that choices and behaviors have on feelings and mental health.

Operating under the assumption that Self Care is Not Selfish, I found great success by making self care a priority in my life. This openness about being diagnosed with Bipolar and sharing my journey to improved mental wellness are the focal point of Feel Awesomer, a website designed to empower all people find the best versions of themselves, and not be victims of diagnosis or circumstances. I use an eclectic approach to counseling and tailor my treatment methods to the each individual I am working with. In my spare time I am a backcountry skier, mountain biker, yogi, writer, “artist”, amateur chef, and doggie daddy. I have been at dark points, suicidal, empty, vacant and self-loathing. But through my life have found that it can be worth living. Joy, fulfillment, and pride are within everyone’s reach, it just takes effort and awareness to shed the outdated version of yourself, this is where I can help you. I generally meet with clients on the trail/walks, coffee shops, in home, and do have access to office space as well. YOU CAN FEEL BETTER!
