What is “Connectedness”?
Living in Summit County can be difficult. Whether it’s the long winters, lack of traditional neighborhoods, high rate of second homeowners, or transient nature of the community, it can be difficult to create meaningful relationships.
In an effort to reduce isolation and help residents foster meaningful connections with each other, Building Hope offers 4 to 6 completely free Community Connecting Events per month. These events promote emotional well-being by offering tangible mental health tips and tools as well as increase attendee awareness of local and national mental health resources.
“This event was helpful and encouraging. It’s nice to see the faces of
others that may be struggling during these uncertain times.
Thank you to all that put this thing together!”
How has it helped our community?
- 3179 people have attended 199 Connectedness & HYPE Events since 2017.
- In 2020 alone, we had 1193 people join us for in-person yoga, ax throwing, sound healing to virtual events like writing workshops, expressive art, mindful hikes, and mental health navigation workshops.

“You all have done such a fabulous job of putting together these community events.
I’m so proud to be a member of the Summit County community and to have Building Hope as such an important resource.”
How has COVID affected our program and how have we adapted?
Public Health Order compliance has changed the way that our events take place. During Stay-At-Home Orders, Building Hope quickly shifted our in-person Connectedness Events to virtual events using an online platform. These online events included writing workshops, at-home self-massage, and on-demand yoga classes.
As restrictions are slowly released, Building Hope has offered a combination of in-person and online events to ensure that community members can remain connected regardless of their individual circumstances and physical distancing decisions. Throughout the remainder of 2020, Building Hope will offer a wide range of offerings in a number of formats.
